One Week...

Well it's been a busy month or so as we wrap things up and try and get ready to hit the road.  Stress is currently at an all time high and we are scrambling to get everything done before we leave for Alaska next Wednesday. We got a huge boost of help from both of our families last weekend getting a ton of our stuff moved into a storage unit and knocking out some of the last big hurdles on the camper.  Thanks so much to all of them, we'd never have been able to get this done without their help.

Our house is currently a rather comical mess.  We moved most of our furniture and stuff into storage last weekend when we had lots of helping hands so we are living with a very minimal collection of stuff that either will be traveling with us on the road or will be easy to put into storage with just the two of us.  It's definitely a bit sad and weird being stuck in this in between state not quite ready to leave but so many things already changed.  It draws out the reality of what were leaving behind while it's hard to see the excitement of whats yet to come with so much more still to do until we're free.

The camper is getting really close to finally reaching completion.  I'm hoping with 2 more days of work I'll have everything wrapped up and she'll be ready to hit the road.  Jess has been a huge help painting her little heart out to make sure our new home is not only functional but also beautiful when we hit the road.  Here's a few teaser shots as we near completion.

Oh and did I mention two weeks ago we traded in both our cars and picked up a new rig for our travels?  It's a 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid.  From all the research I've been able to do I think it's going to be a perfect vehicle for our needs and hopefully be frugal on fuel all the while.  I guess time will tell how she does towing a camper but in our first tank of gas in mixed driving she posted a respectable 28.8 MPG.  We're still up in the air on what her names gonna be but right now she seems to have received the temporary name of black bessy.

Hopefully my next post will be some finished pictures of the camper or a note saying we're off.  I know the next couple days are going to be super stressful but I think it'll definitely be all worth it in the end.
