Slow and Steady

Well things are progressing on the camper slow and steady.  I always have hopes of having things done long before it's in any way possible but I'm still optimistic we're going to get this thing done soon.

Over the past few weekends I was able to finally get the doors all wrapped up and move onto other things.  We started applying canvas to the outside last weekend and this weekend got most of the canvas on the main body of the camper and the tailgate applied.  We still need to cover the doors and finish wetting everything out.  Canvasing is a very long and tedious process that involves painting the surface with wood glue then stretch and sticking the canvas to the painted surface.  Once it dries you paint on another coat of thinned out wood glue over top the canvas and it makes a hard and watertight surface.  The finished result looks really nice but with all the odd shapes of our camper getting it done is definitely a bit of a handful.

Here's a couple pictures from the process

Yesterday after being thoroughly annoyed with work on canvas I decided to take a break and work out the electrical compartment.  There was copious amounts of head scratching and lots of confusion but by the end of the day I managed to cram everything I needed to in one tight little space.  When everything is finally wired we'll be running 12v DC off a deep cycle marine battery for our lighting, radio, and vent fan.  We also have standard A/C outlets in the cabin and galley that will be powered while off the grid with a 750w inverter or can be switched to run off shore power if we're plugged in.  Today the cabin and galley speakers are supposed to show up in the mail and we'll be able to work on wiring the sound system in and getting some onboard "tunes."

Wednesday night is my last mountain bike race of this spring series, and Thursday morning we hit the road to Low's Lake to spend the weekend camping, fishing, and relaxing with Mike and Brooke so this may be the last bit of progress for a few days.  Camping with Mike and Brooke is always a good time so it should prove to be a very fun weekend.  Next week I plan to seriously get down to business and hopefully start getting more and of this project wrapped up.
